Our Technology

Attacking bacteria with bacteriophage presents an alternative approach to preventing or treating bacterial infections with antibiotics. The Cytophage template technology (patent pending) creates tailor-made combinations of natural and genetically modified bacteriophages that target and destroy specific bacterial organisms found in humans, animals and agricultural crops, as well as on surfaces in healthcare or food processing facilities. There are four key advantages of our superphages versus naturally-found phages:
  • Ours are tailor-made synthetic bacteriophages designed in the lab not discovered in nature, and can be made for any bacterial problem impacting human health, animal health and food safety.
  • Ours are safe. They don’t affect helpful bacteria, animal or human cells. There is no food chain effect as with antibiotics, and they don’t create super bugs.
  • Ours have superior efficacy in that they have kill rates of up to 100% versus an average 60% for natural phages.
  • Ours are cost effective for the global treatment of bacterial infections.
We’re currently focusing our research and development on developing products to replace antibiotics used in livestock.

The first application of our innovative technology will be to create Cytophages that will reduce and complement the use of antibiotics for illness prevention and growth enhancement in livestock, starting with poultry.

We’re developing a poultry feed additive that prevents the most common bacterial infections in chickens — Clostridium, Salmonella and E. coli. This product will replace antibiotics commonly used in chicken barns, resulting in antibiotic-free chickens — a regulatory imperative and a commercial benefit in today’s marketplace.

At the same time, we’ll look to develop products for the major livestock markets including swine, cattle, and fish.

And this is just the beginning. We have the technology to treat virtually all bacterial infections that affect human health, animal health and food safety, especially antimicrobial resistant infections.

Food Safety

In food safety, our phages help prevent disease and the spread of disease, without introducing antibiotics into the food chain or the environment.

Animal Health

Cytophage is developing bacteriophages that will reduce and ultimately replace the use of antibiotics for illness prevention and growth enhancement in livestock, starting with poultry.

Human Health

In human health, phages can address a full range of bacterial illnesses and conditions, from treating acne and eczema, alleviating internal bacterial infections such as pneumonia, preventing wound infections and battling outbreaks such as cholera or diphtheria.

Phages can also be used for the decontamination of hospital surfaces and counters, tools and instruments, beds and curtains, and anywhere else bacterial contamination is a concern.
